Stop Hitting the Snooze Button

The sound of your alarm clock in the morning can literally be one of the worst sounds in the world, right up there with fingernails on a chalk board! Personally, I have trouble getting up after the first alarm sounds.
It usually takes pushing the snooze button at least three times before I get up.
This can kill your most pivotal sleep of the night by depriving you of deep active sleep or rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.
This type of sleep happens very late in night, roughly ending before we naturally wake up.
Setting your alarm earlier because you are planning on hitting the snooze button can be taking away minutes of this valuable REM sleep.
Let's look at ways to stop hitting the snooze button.
o Consistent wake up time - Kevin Morgan, a sleep researcher at Loughborough University recommends, "You would be much better advised to set your body clock to the same time every morning by always getting up at the same time.
This tells your biological system when it needs to start.
" Pick a wake-up time and be consistent with it, before you know your body will adapt to that time! o Control the sleeping atmosphere - one easy way to start getting up earlier is to set your thermostat to start heating your room 30-45 minutes before your wakeup time.
Raising the room temperature raises your body temperature as well helping your naturally wake up! Plus it's easier to get out of bed when it's not frigid in the room! o Use new technology - more advanced techies can use some of the newer alarm clocks out there.
For instance, the Shocking Alarm Clock gives you a little jolt each time you push the snooze button.
Another example is the Blender Clock.
This is basically a blender that starts when the alarm sounds.
If a blender cannot get you up and out of bed, you have bigger problems.
o Make it difficult - Dr.
Jeff Brown a sleep specialists had the simplest advice to offer, "Set one alarm clock, then place it across the room so you have to get out of bed to turn it off.
If it helps to wake up, turn a milk crate upside down on top of the clock, then place books on top of the crate so you have to do some moving and lifting to get to the clock in order to turn it off.
" Probably the best bet for getting up and out of bed when the alarm clock sounds is having a consistent bed and wake up time that allows you to get at least eight hours of sleep a night! But if that doesn't work you can always try any of these methods; at least put your alarm across the room!
