How to Remove a Battery Reset on a Mac Pro Tower
- 1). Reset the PRAM battery a second time to make sure the battery does not work. To reset the PRAM battery on the Mac Pro tower, go to the Apple menu and click on "Restart..." When the screen goes dark, hold down the "Option" and "Command" keys on the left side of the keyboard and the "P" and "R" keys. This will reset the PRAM, causing two boot sounds to occur. Release the keys when the screen turns gray. It is possible that the first time you reset the PRAM battery, it did not clear the problem. Sometimes, the second PRAM battery will fix the problem. If it does not, you will need to remove and replace the battery.
- 2). Unplug your Mac Pro tower computer after powering it down. Disengage all the peripheral devices you have attached to it. These may include the keyboard and mouse if you use wired versions, as well as external hard drives, optical drives, scanners, printers and monitors. If you were just using the Mac Pro, let it cool down for at least 15 minutes before opening it.
- 3). Touch your hand to the rear exposed metal of the PCI card slot covers to discharge static electricity. Lift the rear level to unlock the side access panel. Lift and remove the access panel. The PRAM battery is located on the middle right as you face the open side of your Mac Pro.
- 4). Remove any video or other PCI cards you have installed in the Mac Pro. Each PCI card has a single Phillips or Torx screw holding it in place at the right. Remove the screw. Pull the PCI card toward you. Disengage any cables attached to the PCI cards before removing them.
- 5). Reach inside the open Mac Pro tower case where the PCI cards were located to find the small disc-shaped battery in its holder. With your finger, slide it to the right (toward the rear of the Mac Pro) and take it out.
- 6). Replace the PRAM battery by sliding the new one into the battery holder toward the left. Reinstall the PCI cards, and then close your Mac Pro.
