How to Get Rid of Large Groundhog Rodents
- 1). Place an animal trap just outside the groundhog's burrow. Put some bait in the trap like fruits or vegetables. Animal cages can be purchased from outdoor and hunting stores.
- 2). Check the trap often until you catch the groundhog. Call your local animal control center to come and pick up the groundhog or give you advice on what to do with it. Do not try to release the wild animal yourself because it may bite or claw you.
- 3). Fill in the entrances to the burrows with dirt. This will keep groundhogs and other small mammals out of the burrow.
- 4). Purchase some groundhog repellent to deter groundhogs from coming into your yard. The smell is usually bad enough to keep them away. You can buy groundhog repellent from your local garden store.
- 5). Put a pinwheel or moving object in your lawn or garden. Groundhogs are timid creatures and will be scared away.
