Dressing Up Ideas for a Cupcake
- To create a no-sew cupcake, you'll need various colors of felt, scissors, a hot-glue gun, a shirt and a skirt. Cut a large felt circle, between 24 to 36 inches in diameter, depending on your size, to use as your frosting base. Fold the circle in half and place the folded edge on top of your shirt. Trace or try to copy the neckline of your shirt onto the felt. Cut out the circle. Make sure your head fits through the hole and the fabric rests comfortably on your shoulders. Scallop the outer edge of the circle with scissors and decorate the frosting with sprinkles made out of smaller circles of colored felt. Use the glue gun to adhere the sprink.es. Cut several strips of brown felt, each 16 inches by 3 inches. Glue the strips next to each other on a brown or dark-colored skirt. Trim the overhang.
- Transform a household plastic tub into a clever cupcake base. Remove the bottom section of a square or rounded plastic tub that you can fit your lower body into. Fold and pleat a large piece of poster board and attach to outside of the tub, using adhesive. Fill the tub with poly fill to make icing and secure with glue. Glue colored pompoms on the frosting. Clip pink or light-colored suspenders to opposite sides of the container. Step into the tub and secure by wearing the suspenders on your shoulders.
- For little ones, use a small laundry basket for a creative cupcake base. Cut out the bottom of a laundry basket. Cut out a large piece of fabric or felt and wrap it around the basket, attaching it using a hot-glue gun. Fill the basket with poly fill or sew your own custom poly fill stuffed frosting top. Make sprinkles or other decorations using felt or the remaining fabric. Secure the costume in place by attaching suspenders or straps to the laundry basket.
- Use chipboard to fashion a unique cupcake costume for your child. To create the base cup, you'll need to purchase a square piece of chipboard, large enough to loosely wrap around your child's body. Use duct tape to seal the base. You can also create your own straps from the duct tape. Attach the straps to the inside of the chipboard with duct tape. Cut one strip of fleece, large enough to fit around your child's upper body. Cut two additional fleece strips, 2 inches and 4 inches longer than the original strip. Fold a strip in half and staple or sew shut all but one opening. Fill the strip with poly fill or batting. Do the same for the additional strips.
Have your child step into the base and wear the suspenders. Take the longest fleece strip and wrap it around the top of the cup. Adhere the ends using hot glue. Place the second-longest fleece strip on top of the first strip and wrap around using hot glue. Create the final layer of frosting by wrapping the shortest strip on top of the middle strip and securing with glue.
