Acid Reflux Home Remedies

Heartburn and acid reflux are extremely common problems.
It seems that most everybody suffers from this form of indigestion at one time or another.
Not surprisingly, the drug industry has responded by offering all kinds of potent medications to deal with the problem.
However, drugs always carry the potential risks and sometimes acid reflux home remedies work just as well.
Here are few you can try.
Of course the first thing you'll want to do is to see if you can notice patterns of when your symptoms occur.
Is it always as certain time of day? Or is it associated with some particular foods? Does it have to do with how busy you are or how much stress you areunder? If you can identify the triggers, that will give you some idea on what you can do to minimize or eliminate your symptoms.
Common food triggers include citrus juices, tomato sauces, chocolate, spicy foods, fried foods and coffee.
You may want to eliminate these for a while and see how you feel.
One of the oldest heartburn home remedies is baking soda, which is sodium bicarbonate.
This is probably the original antacid.
While it does work temporarily for many people, I don't recommend that you use it very often because it can upset the natural acid balance in your body.
Here's some other home remedies to try instead.
If the heartburn is just starting and isn't too bad, sometimes just drinking a large glass of water will help.
The water rinses the lining of the esophagus, and the swallowing action helps stop the reflux.
Chewing gum can also help for similar reasons.
It stimulates saliva as well swallowing.
A very simple and effective acid reflux remedy that many people swear by is eating a few slices of apple.
I'm not sure why this works, but it does seem to work well.
And there's certainly no downside to including more fruit in your diet.
If you make your own juices, you can make one that will serve as an acid reflux home remedy.
Just make a juice of a well washed raw potato, either by itself or with some other vegetables.
The starch in the potato makes this a very soothing drink.
Another juice that can help is aloe vera.
If you have a plant and a juicer at home you can make the juice yourself by peeling a piece of leaf and juicing it.
However, you can also find prepared aloe vera juice at a health food store.
In the same way that people find it very soothing on minor burns, it soothes the irritation of the stomach.
Chamomile tea is another traditional home remedy for indigestion.
If you make it a practice to sip a cup of lukewarm chamomile tea after meals, you'll probably notice that you have much less upset stomach and heartburn.
