How to Calculate Acreage in Arcgis

1). Open ArcMap 9.3 and start a new map.
2). Click the "Add Data" button and navigate to the polygon shapefile or geodatabase feature class for which you want to calculate acreage. Click "OK."
3). Click on the shapefile or feature class name to highlight it, then click the right mouse button and select "Open Attribute Table."
4). Click "Options," then "Add Field." This opens the "Add Field" dialog box.
5). Type a name for your new field (for example, "Acres"), and select "Double" from the "Type" drop-down box. Click "OK."
6). Right-click on your new field header, and select "Calculate Geometry." Click "Yes" to continue. This opens the "Calculate Geometry" dialog box.
7). Select "Area" for "Property" and "Acres US [ac]" for "Units." Click "OK."
