A Health Check-Up Forced Craig to Make a Choice
Updated June 15, 2014.
I am 54 years old, and drank heavily and daily for 35 of those 54 years.
I was the classic "functioning alcoholic." I worked, held a good job, and drank heavily every day. I had everyone including myself fooled.
I Continued to Drink
In recent years I began to hear an inaudible voice. "Craig, why are you throwing your life away? I have so many gifts yet to give you, and so much more for you to do." I am convinced it was God speaking, but I continued to drink.
A routine health screening indicated that finally after all those years, the booze was taking it's toll. I was finally forced to make a choice: sobriety, health and life or booze, illness and an early death. I chose sobriety, health and life. I have not had a drink in ten months.
Power of Prayer
I accomplished this without a 12 step program or clinic. It was through prayer and the power of Christ that I was able to stop drinking. God has given me my life back. It is an act of obedience to God that I now stay sober.
A popular Christian rock song says it all..."Do you wanna be free? Do you wanna be free? Lift your chains, I hold the key. All power n'heaven and earth belongs to me."
