Wreaths make appropriate home decorations year-round. You can make wreaths for any occasion, from holidays to birthdays. Also, you don't need to purchase expensive wreath forms. You can simply recycle household paper plates and craft items into personalized decorations. Children also can get involved with these wreaths because they don't involve using wire nips or sharp craft wire. - This simple Christmas wreath is easy for adults or children and results in a lovely, rustic decoration. Simply cut the center from a paper plate, leaving only the curved rim. Measure around the outside of the plate and cut a piece of plastic garland twice that length. You can glue the garland to the plate or staple it in place, but just make sure the plate is covered. Glue small plastic ornaments like shiny little presents, angels, pine cones and decorated Christmas balls all over the wreath. You also may weave Christmas ribbon in and out of the garland. Hang it with a paperclip glued to the back of the plate.
- This easy flower wreath makes a lovely door decoration in the springtime. Plus, children enjoy having something with a part of themselves in it. Help your child trace her hand on yellow, green and pink, blue, or lavender heavy-weight craft paper. Cut out the handprints and glue the green ones around the edges of the plate so they look like feathery leaves. The pink, blue or lavender prints are the petals and the yellow ones are the flower's feathery center. Once dry, bend the fingers on the prints up a little so they flutter in the breeze. You can speckle the petals with acrylic paint in a contrasting or darker hue than the print color. You also may glue beads to the center of the yellow prints for seeds.
- Any child or adult can make this simple tissue paper wreath for any season. Simply cut the center out of a regular paper plate, leaving only the rim. Tear several colors of tissue paper up into quarter-sized pieces and crumple them into little flower shapes. Glue the back of each flower to the paper plate, clustering them closely so the plate is hidden. You may use red and green for Christmas, pastels for Easter and spring, flag colors for Independence Day or simply use your favorite colors as a door wreath for a bedroom. You can create patterns with the colors, like stripes or polka dots, or create a random pattern that looks more like a mosaic.
