About Boy's Nurseries

    Types

    • Most boy nurseries are decorated in either masculine or neutral themes. The masculine theme often uses the colors blue or gray to convey a specific "boy-like" tone. Some features of a masculine nursery decor are trains, airplanes, baseball, basketball, or action hero cartoon characters that are painted in murals on the wall. For neutral themes, walls are painted in muted colors like white, yellow or green. The decor takes on a more friendly, cross-gender appeal, with the introduction of items that would appeal to both boy or girl, including birds, ducks, clouds, and rainbows.

    Function

    • Boy nurseries are fashionable as a designated room for a baby to sleep, play or eat within. Nurseries are meant to be both soothing and stimulating, with images and colors that evoke the child's imagination and that can also comfort the child into a peaceful state of sleep. Boy nurseries should be built to withstand the havoc a growing boy can cause.

    Benefits

    • Boy nurseries provide a quiet place that ensures the baby will not be disturbed with outside noise. It is his own space that contains all of his belongings, including toys and clothes. In the nursery, the baby and his parents have a safe and dedicated place to interact with each other. Nurseries are often the most baby-proofed room in a house, which lowers the risk of danger to the baby. An additional benefit is that parents can maintain privacy in their own bedroom without sharing space with the baby.

    Potential

    • After the age of 3, it is time to change the baby boy's nursery into a big boy's nursery. The boy nursery can continue to morph into different types of rooms that adapt to a boy's needs and desires. Some families choose to maintain the nursery for a future baby. After all, it's easy to change the fabrics and decor in a boy nursery to create a different ambiance if the next baby is a girl.

    Significance

    • Boy nurseries are often painted in darker or more muted tones because these are the colors that males naturally gravitate toward. These colors play a part in creating a learning ambiance in the room, according to color therapists. Also, muted colors do not evoke emotions as much as brighter colors do. If choosing a brighter color, be careful to avoid yellow. Researchers show that babies cry more often in yellow rooms.
