    • 1). Contact local charitable groups, such as churches and nonprofits, and ask if they are hosting holiday toy drives. Visit the web sites of local television and radio stations to see what efforts they are making. Compare gift and toy drives to select the group or organization that you would most like to support.

    • 2). Gather information on the specifics of the gift or toy drive. Determine whether there is a price limit or minimum for toys and gifts. Ask if they are accepting used items or prefer new. Find out whether you would be buying a gift for a specific child or contributing to a gift pool. Visit the local organization or call to find out what a particular child has requested, if possible.

    • 3). Purchase your gift or collect your items. Wrap each separately in festive paper and decorations, if requested by the group organizing the gift drive. Be sure to follow labeling instructions carefully; when indicated, write only the name of the gift item and attach it to the package. Be sure to drop items well in advance of deadlines.

    • 4). You can donate items independently by selecting low-income child care centers or similar groups. Make phone calls and ask if you can purchase items for use in these centers by all the children. Ask for a tax receipt if you wish to consider it a charitable donation.
