  You can make a homemade Halloween costume as a tribute to indie music and movies, or to poke fun at indie music and its fans. Have fun coming up with silly or irreverent indie costume ideas, and then assemble them using household goods or inexpensive costume or craft supplies. The ideal indie costume should require minimal expense and store-bought materials.
  
  

MIA

• MIA is a hip-hop and electronic music star popular with the indie music crowd, and her wild outfits make dressing like her an appealing possibility. Raid your closet or a nearby thrift store for bright, patterned leggings and tight layers, and complete the look with a bright blue or black wig, oversized sunglasses and Converse shoes. You could even carry a boom box with one of her albums playing for added effect.
  
  

Juno

• Team up with a friend or significant other to dress up as the characters Juno MacGuff and Paulie Bleeker from the 2007 movie "Juno." To dress as Juno, stuff an orange and white striped shirt with a pillow or towel, and wear skinny jeans, Converse shoes and a dark hoodie. Carry a pipe for added effect. To dress as Paulie Bleeker, wear a classic track outfit complete with running shoes, yellow shorts, yellow sweatbands and headband and a burgundy T-shirt. • Make fun of hipsters with this easy costume. Simply wear a high-waisted pencil skirt or skinny jeans, a pair of Converse shoes, Wayfarer sunglasses and an apathetic expression on your face.

• Dress as a character from this indie favorite, prematurely canceled television show. You can dress up as George Michael by wearing frumpy khaki pants and a plaid shirt and carrying a light saver. Or dress as Tobias by wearing cutoff denim shorts and painting yourself blue. Use permanent markers or acrylic paint to write the word "Slut" on a red, sleeveless shirt to dress as Lindsay. Or simply wear a white T-shirt with "Save Our Bluths" or "Save Arrested Development" written across the front in permanent marker.
