  If you are an avid car racing fan, catch a race at the Martinsville Speedway in southern Virginia. The track hosts NASCAR events throughout the year, including the annual Tums 500 race. Vacationers who seek recreational activities, before or after the race, can find tent campgrounds in and around Martinsville. • David and Julia's RV Park is on the northern edge of Martinsville. It is only a 10 minute drive from the car racing events at the Martinsville Speedway. The Lynwood Golf Club, which has an 18-hole course, is only 10 minutes from the campground. Some of the campground's amenities include a lake for fishing, dump station, shower facilities and picnicking areas. David and Julia's also has a club house for group gatherings, such as birthday parties and family reunions. The tent camping sites have hookups for water and electricity. RV camping is permitted.

Indian Heritage RV Park

• Situated in central Martinsville, the Indian Heritage RV Park is less than 10 minutes from the Martinsville Speedway. It is only a 10 minute walk from the restaurants and shops in the town center. The campground's location on the Smith River offers travelers with fishing opportunities. Campground amenities include a dump station, shower facilities, access to Wi-Fi Internet and boat ramps for canoeing and kayaking. The primitive tent sites are on the river banks; and they offer hookups for water, sewage and electricity.

Goose Dam Campground

• The Goose Dam Campground, an approximate 30 minute drive from the Martinsville Speedway, provides amenities such as a laundromat, playground, shower facilities and firewood for cooking on the campground's fire pits. Each camping site has a fire pit available. The campground provides tent campsites on the banks of the campground's onsite stream. The stream is connected to nearby Smith Lake, a 22,000-acre body of water that offers fishing and boating facilities. Some of the facilities include fishing piers, as well as slips and ramps for boating.

Fairy Stone State Park

• The Fairy Stone State Park is a 30 minute drive northwest of the Martinsville Speedway. It provides visitors with nine miles of trails for horseback riding and nature walking, as well as fishing and boating on the 168-acre Fairy Stone Lake. The campground provides amenities such as a laundromat, sheltered picnicking areas and a conference center for meetings and group gatherings. The 56 tent campsites at Fairy Stone have water and electricity hookups. A dump station is available for excess waste. Group campsites can host up to three tents.
