- 1). Purchase artificial flowers that you wish to include in the floral display, along with a container suitable for the intended design. For example, if your flower display is to sit low on a tabletop, select a shallow bowl or vase. If the display is a tall focal point, select a large vase. The length of the artificial flower stems is irrelevant; you can cut the stems to shorten them or add wire to elongate them as needed.
- 2). Cut a section of floral foam or floral clay to fit inside the selected container, using a serrated knife. Floral foam is lightweight and works best to hold short artificial flowers. Floral clay is heavier and works best to hold tall artificial flowers. Floral clay is also the best choice if the arrangement includes more than a few flowers.
- 3). Insert the floral clay or foam inside the container. Fix the material securely in place with floral tape.
- 4). Insert the tallest artificial flowers in the back or in the center of the floral clay/foam, depending on the overall desired look of the display. Placing the tallest flowers in the center of the container is the start of a mounded display that is visible from all sides. Placing the tallest flowers in the back is the start of a display that may stand against the wall.
- 5). Insert the remaining flowers into the floral foam/clay based on height, tallest flowers first. Cut the artificial stems with wire cutters as needed to vary the heights of the individual flowers. If you need to add length to the stems, cut 22-gauge floral wire and attach it to the existing stem using floral tape. Space the flowers to create the fullness that suits your design.
- 6). Step back and look at the display. Rearrange the artificial flowers as needed by removing and re-inserting them in the floral foam or clay.
