Matching Colors: A Science that is Well Developed to Help

Interior design, for your own personal home, or for your dollhouse kit can be a matter of color choices. Everyone that has gone to high school art or taken any basic art school knows a little bit about the color wheel. The basis of the wheel is that some colors are similar to one another, and others have contrast. The colors right next to each other are called analogous colors, and offer slight similarities for color patterns, and those opposite offer the most contrast and pop. When starting your designing pick up a color wheel for your color selections, a little knowledge about color coordination will go a long way to help your design and flow capabilities.

Sizing to Your Advantage

Always, always remember that there are different sizing elements in miniatures. Here are the sizing elements, there are three: Miniature scales, size of room dimensions, and comparative size. Miniature scaling refers to the fact that dolls and their furniture come in different sizing patterns. Meaning, you should check your dollhouse scale, if it is quarter inch you need quarter inch furniture. The second size element, sizing up the room, means that you are not getting furniture that will not fit in the room. The actual furniture dimensions should be located at the store or website that you bought it at, simply measure and compare. Lastly, the final point is the size of the furniture as it compares to other pieces around it. This means that each set has its own symmetry of size, larger, medium, and smaller pieces should coordinate together in a pattern that makes sense.

Floor Trim for your Dollhouse

Everyone likes to tweak there dollhouses from time to time. There are some great things that you can add to your house, and I just simply came across one that helped out a lot. I simply created a floor board to use for the trim around the floor of the dollhouse. Floor Trim is not a new creation, but what I found is instead of buying it, to use a very thin balsa wood found in most craft stores. Simply paint it the color of your dollhouse and attach it to the foot of your walls. My biggest discovery is when the trim hid most of the fine mistakes between the floor and the wall. Another great thing about the trim is that it covers the edges of the wallpaper and prevents fraying. This discovery truly was a small one, but I believe that it really added to my dollhouse.
