Textured Brass and Bamboo Earrings
Bamboo and metal are combined in these earth-tone earrings. The textured teardrops, chain, and findings are brass, and the tube-shaped beads are bamboo.
You will need the following tools and supplies:
*2 - 17x15mm Textured brass teardrop components
*2 - 12x4mm Tube-shaped bamboo beads
2 Brass ear hooks (or make your own)
2 - Pieces of small link chain 1 1/4 inches each
2 - 3mm Brass jump rings
Oxidation supplies
Chain-nosed pliers
*These brass components came from Guyot Brothers, #07803.
The bamboo beads came from Rings & Things.
Start to Oxidize Metals
1. This first step is optional. You can leave the brass teardrops and findings "as is" or you can darken them, though they will darken some over time. If you want to do it before assembling the earrings, set up an area to oxidize the materials using liver of sulphur.
Oxidized Brass
2. Once you have an area ready, use liver of sulphur to oxidize your choice of the metal pieces for the earrings such as the teardrop components, jump rings, and ear hooks.
Attach Jump Ring
3. Attach a jump ring to the end of each piece of chain.
Add Brass Component
4. Slip each jump ring through the hole in each brass component, and make sure the jump rings are securely closed.
5. Slip the chain sections through a bamboo bead.
6. Finally, attach ear hooks to the top piece of each chain section to finish the earrings.
