If you suffer from anxiety, then it's in your interest to be able to stop panic attacks the moment you feel one coming on.
There's nothing more frightful than a full-force anxiety attack, yet by following a few simple techniques, it's possible to stop them in their tracks before they reach their peak.
The first thing you need to do to stop panic attacks, the moment you feel your panic rising, is to try and calm yourself.
You can do this by taking deep, slow, full breaths.
While doing this, just remind yourself that it is only a panic attack and nothing devastating is going to happen.
Continue taking the deep and slow breaths, keep on reminding yourself, don't stop, and you will feel your body begin to calm itself.
At the same time, you can keep telling yourself positive things.
We can use positive statements to control our panic.
Instead of worrying and thinking that you're going to die, shout out "STOP" in your mind, and then force yourself to cut out any negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones.
Stop thinking you are dying.
Instead, think of something positive that is going to help you cope with the panic.
A statement like "If I just relax, this anxiety attack will be over very shortly" will go a long way towards calming you down.
You must calm yourself to stop panic attacks.
You also need to accept your feelings to stop panic attacks.
By minimizing your feelings of panic, you can control them.
Rather than losing control, try to concentrate on the emotions that you can feel.
Panic is almost always caused by the fear emotion or some variation of it.
Try to identify what emotions you are feeling and then find the reasons as to why you are feeling like this.
The next step is to validate that emotion, and then focus on the reasons you are experiencing it.
For example, you might be having an anxiety attack because you are about to give a speech.
Therefore, you are scared because the thought of doing so is frightening.
You then need to put these feelings into perspective to stop panic attacks.
While speaking in front of a group of people might be scary, it isn't going to kill you, so the fear you are feeling is disproportionate to the situation.
Remembering this will help you to calm down.
Above all else, examine what fear is.
By knowing fear, you can control it and stop panic attacks.
Fear is actually a very positive emotion because it allows you to escape from danger.
Rather than trying to avoid fear, simply appreciate it for what it is, and learn to act proportionately to the level of fear you face in everyday situations.
Once you can understand your feelings and why you lose control, you will be able to stop panic attacks for good.
