Every shop is different and the tools you need will depend on the work you carry out, there are some machine shop tools which are basic to most workshops, these include: lathes, drills, mills, presses.
Each machine has a different uses.
The lathe is used to produce items which are symmetrical these include: baseball bats, table legs, candle holders, and cue sticks.
The lathe works by rotating the raw/uncut material while it is slowly reshaped through: knurling, drilling, cutting, or sanding.
Mills are used to cut and shape solid materials such as metals to the necessary shape and size.
Milling machines can be operated manually or may be automatic.
A drill used to give a round hole may be fixed to the floor or stand mounted.
Some drills have a geared head, radial arm, a drill press, and mill drill.
Drills are usually driven by electric motor with power being transferred to the drill head through a gearing mechanism.
Boring which is similar to drilling is making the round hole bigger.
Machine shop tools cover a wide spectrum and the final choice will depend on what is specialized on.
The principal processes in most workshops will include: drilling, milling, turning, sawing, broaching, and boring.
All machine operators but particularly beginners should take care and be cautious when using machinery.
