But with all the choices out there how can you decide on which chair to buy? Also, there are often many questions on whether or not it is covered by Medicare.
To help answer some of these questions, I have put together this great little guide for you that covers 5 things you need to consider or be aware of.
1.
Weight limit
Today, many manufactures make heavy-duty chairs that can support anywhere from 350 to 500 pounds.
Most chairs however are only rated to life 250 pounds, so if weight is an issue for you, go for a heavy duty chair.
2.
Warranty
Since a lift chair can be a significant investment you should get a warranty on it.
These chairs have many moving parts and electrical connections that can stop working at any time, so make sure you at least get a 1 year warranty.
3.
Medicare Coverage
Medicare will not cover relining lift chairs.
They will however pay for a seat lift itself if you get it separately from the recliner.
Also you have to have the ability to move around once out of the chair as well before Medicare will pay for it.
4.
Safety
Make sure your chair comes with a battery backup in case there is an electrical power outage.
This way you are not trapped in your chair in case of emergencies.
5.
Does it lie flat?
If you want a reclining lift chair, a nice option to have is one that lies completely flat.
This way it gives you the option to sleep in it comfortably if you need to.
