- The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says that the average income of workers in involved in insurance claims adjusting, examining and investigation was $60,200 in May 2010. This translates to an average hourly wage of $28.94. The median income in the field was $58,620 and the median hourly wage was $28.18. Half of all workers earn more than the median while half earn less.
- Income earned in any job field can vary from one person to another due to factors like experience, schooling, past accomplishments and skills. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the top 10 percent of income earners among insurance claim adjusters, investigators and examiners made $88,320 or more in May 2010 while the bottom 10 percent of income earners made $35,710 or less. The middle 50 percent of income earners in the occupation made between $44,460 and $73,730.
- Bureau of Labor Statistics data show there were 120,780 workers in the field of insurance claim management for insurance carriers in May 2010 and that carriers paid workers $59,490 on average. Workers employed by agencies, brokerages and other insurance-related services earned $58,180 on average, while workers employed by the federal government earned $66,910 on average and workers employed by state governments earned $55,440 on average.
- According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the District of Columbia was the highest paying state for insurance claim adjusters, examiners and investigators in May 2010. Workers in Washington, D.C., made $79,010 on average. Other high-paying states included New Jersey, California and Louisiana; workers in these states earned $65,140 or more on average. Connecticut had the highest concentration of workers in the occupation of any state and they earned $63,670 on average.
