Everyone knows the importance of having a good resume when entering the job market, but few applicants spend enough time on their resume objective statement. For a security guard, the objective statement can signal to a potential employer what your overall experience and qualifications are and can draw their attention to the specific details of the resume.

    Experience

    • State your security experience right away. Whether you are a former law enforcement officer looking to enter into the private sector or an experienced private security guard, mentioning such experience shows the employer the scope of your experience from the outset: "Objective: To use my seven years in public law enforcement..." or "To use my five years of private security management in retail...." Although the details will be laid out in the resume body, this information lets your potential employer know you would bring significant experience to the job.

    Company Specifics

    • In addition to showing your broad experience in the resume objective, being "job specific" also makes a for stronger objective statement. The applicant should try to bring in some specific element of the company or job type to which he is applying. Generic objectives are not nearly as effective: "Objective: To bring my 7 years of public law enforcement to retail security and work as a security specialist for a expanding company like Della's."

    Personal Traits

    • The final element—and one that many job seekers ignore—to a good objective statement is a personal element that helps set the job seeker apart from other applicants. The objective should close with some statement about individual work habits or enthusiasm for the field itself: "Objective: To bring my seven years of public law enforcement to retail security and work as a security specialist for a expanding company such as Della's. In addition to my qualifications, my strong work ethic and commitment to integrity in the workplace can make me a valuable asset in such a position."
