Eating Raw While Pregnant

103 7
Pregnancy is a time that many expecting mothers use excuses to over-indulge and consume whatever they want.
Actually, though, it is a very important time and mothers should really watch the things they eat while they're pregnant.
The developing baby needs as much nutrition as possible and they'll only get it through their mama.
Raw foods are great choices for expecting mothers.
Your doctor will probably tell you certain things to avoid, including feta cheese, deli meats, liver, raw eggs, etc.
But many doctors won't stress the importance of eating as many nutritional foods as possible during these nine months.
If your doctor hasn't talked to you about this, ask which foods would be the most beneficial for your baby.
Consult your doctor if you're not sure about a certain food.
Expecting mothers are also sometimes confused about how much they should eat.
The old saying that you need to eat twice as much since you're eating for two is wrong.
You really only need about 300 more calories a day, which isn't that much food if you think about it.
So your baby benefits the most, you need a balanced diet of healthy carbs, lean protein, good fats, fiber, fruits and vegetables.
Sweets are fine occasionally, but try to avoid eating a bunch of processed snacks.
They typically have no nutritional value for you or your child.
Folic acid is important and many doctors recommend a folic acid supplement.
In addition, you can get folic acid from a lot of raw foods, such as broccoli, spinach, asparagus, kale, chickpeas, Brussels sprouts, peas, cabbage, tomatoes and cauliflower.
Folic acid is also found in peanuts, almonds and walnuts.
Another necessary nutrient is iron as it improves the hemoglobin in the blood.
Pregnant women need a lot of hemoglobin in the blood and it can be consumed with a supplement or through foods.
Dried beans and lentils have a lot of iron.
In addition, dark green vegetables, some nuts and fruits have good amounts of iron for both mom and baby.
Other nutrients, such as calcium, iodine and healthy fats are good for the baby.
Like the previous nutrients listed, these can be consumed with supplements or raw foods.
The key is to eat a wide variety of healthy foods and your baby will be getting all he or she needs to start a good life.
It's fine to give into cravings every now and then, but don't always put your desire for food ahead of the needs of your dependent baby.
You can start showing your baby how much you love him or her before they're even born by giving them a healthy start.
Eat raw foods and both you and your baby will benefit.
