106 26
Common Name: Bullock's Oriole
Scientific Name: Icterus bullockii
Migration: Migratory; full population migrates seasonally.

Habitat:

Bullock's orioles are beautiful neotropical migrants that prefer wooded habitats such as open forests, riparian corridors, parks, arboretums and orchards, particularly where oak trees are abundant. Some scrub habitat is also ideal, particularly if there are plenty of fruit-bearing bushes and nectar-producing flowers for reliable food sources.

During the summer breeding season, they are more readily found in deciduous forests, but in winter, they will also take advantage of mixed deciduous and coniferous woodlands up to 10,000 feet in elevation.

These orioles can be shier than their eastern Baltimore oriole cousins, but they will visit bird-friendly backyards. Berry bushes, nectar sources and jelly feeders can help attract these orioles, especially if insecticide use is minimized so insects are abundant for protein when nestlings have high nutritional demands.
