Diet for Macropodus Chinensis
- Chinese paradise fish love frozen foods such as bloodworms, plankton and shrimp. They will also eat live food such as brine shrimp, black worm, small earthworms, mealworms, houseflies and mosquitoes. In fact, many fish hobbyists raise mosquito larvae in their backyards to feed their aquarium fish. Consider these foods as giving your fish a treat. You should stick to the feeding directions on your bottle of fish food and save the live and frozen foods to one serving a day.
- Paradise fish are omnivorous, meaning, they will eat live food and any type of flake or pellet food you give them. When picking out a flake food for your fish, choose a spirulina-based food. This is a human and animal food supplement that will provide your fish with vegetable matter while you are feeding them live and frozen food at the same time. When buying flake food from your local pet store, be sure to ask a store worker about when to feed your fish and pay attention to the directions on the label.
- Generally speaking, the amount of food you feed your paradise fish depends on how many you have in your tank or aquarium and how old they are. A baby fish needs food two times a day while an adult fish needs to eat only once a day. Figure about 10 small granules of food for each fish.
Remember, it is OK to leave your fish without food for a day or two. Putting 10 to 15 small guppies in their tank as food once a week should be enough. Feeding paradise fish small guppies is said to make them live longer. The average fish lives between two and three years.
