Organic vinegar generally has two to six ingredients depending on the blend, which can include wine or cider. Organic vinegar's tangy, bitter taste goes well with salads or other raw food dishes. - Cider is common ingredient in organic vinegar. Often this ingredient is organic as well, but read your label to find out how many organic ingredients are contained in the product. Cider, made from fermented apple juice, adds a small amount of sweetness to straight bitter vinegar. Some blends contain nothing more than vinegar and cider. The University of Minnesota says apple cider vinegar has a mellow fruit-like flavor that blends well with spices.
- Both red and white wine are often added to organic vinegar during the manufacturing process. Fermented ingredients, such as wine, are common additions to organic vinegar.
- Distilled water, another common ingredient added to vinegar, helps to dilute the bitter taste slightly. The amount of water added depends on the type of vinegar blend and manufacturing process. Sometimes less water is added when other ingredients such as wine are blended in.
- Ethanoic acid is a weak acid that is often added to organic vinegar. This acid adds to the bitter taste. It is clear and colorless, but it has a strong odor. This acid is called weak because it reacts when exposed to oxygen. However, it doesn't change the composition of vinegar.
