How to Build a Hanging Plant Stand
- 1). Decide on a location for the hanging plant stand and use the post hole digger to dig out a hole 1 to 2 feet deep. The hole should be approximately 8 inches in diameter, allowing for post placement and a concrete or cement support.
- 2). Repeat Step 1's guidelines to dig another hole, approximately 7 1/2 feet from the first post hole.
- 3). Mix a batch of concrete or cement with appropriate amounts of water in a wheelbarrow. Set the two posts, one into each hole and have a friend hold the posts in place as you tilt the wheelbarrow to pour the concrete or cement into the holes around the posts. Use the 2-by-4 inch boards positioned at angles to hold the posts into place while the mixture dries overnight.
- 4). Utilize the tape measure and power saw to cut one of the 2-by-4 inch boards in half to produce two 4-foot-long pieces. Use the tape measure again to mark the direct center of each 4-foot-long piece.
- 5). Hold the center mark of each board above the direct center of each post and nail the two 4-foot-long pieces (created in Step 4) onto the tops of the posts so the two pieces sit parallel to one another. The two posts should now resemble the letter T. Use a stepladder to complete this step, as the posts will sit approximately 7 feet from the ground.
- 6). Sit the full-length 2-by-4 inch piece between the two posts. The board should sit at the direct center of each post. Stagger the nail slightly to prevent the nail from going into the same spot as the previous nail used to attach the shorter 2-by-4 inch piece. With the longer 2-by-4 inch piece stretched between the two posts, you should have adequate space to hang approximately eight hanging flower pots.
- 7). Match a drill bit to the screw-in hooks you purchased to hang your plants. Hooks with nuts and washers or screw-on bolt heads work best to ensure the hooks do not loosen, causing your potted plant to crash toward the ground.
- 8). Drill holes near the ends of the short 2-by-4 inch boards, approximately 2 feet apart along the longer 2-by-4 inch piece. Screw the hooks into place and top with a nut and washer or a bolt cap.
