A gameroom, which is also called a recreation room, is an area where your family and friends relax and socialize. Decorating the gameroom and personalizing it to your tastes is an important part of making it comfortable for your friends and family. Consider what decorating choices you need to make about your gameroom. - Pull out board games that you never play anymore or purchase board games from a thrift store or rummage sale. Pull out the boards and mount them on your wall. This gives you some color and it lets your guests know that your game room is all about fun. The boards are smooth and finished and may be mounted as they are with nails or putty.
- While seating around a gaming table is important, remember that seating away from the table is important as well. Some people show up at game nights to socialize rather than to play, and having a place for them to sit keeps them comfortable. Look for casual seating like beanbags or convertible futons, which can be folded down into beds.
- Use bright colors to paint the walls or purchase storage containers in bright colors. Bright colors encourage a sense of playfulness and they open up small spaces. Use yellow, pale greens or even a light orange to create a sense of openness and fun. Paint any trim white to provide contrast.
- Create a border of playing cards around the edge of the gameroom to provide visual variety. You may leave the cards face up and stagger red and black cards, or you may leave the cards face down to take advantage of a pretty deck design. Place the border at waist level or near the ceiling, depending on how obvious you want it to be. This idea is perfect for a gameroom that is mostly devoted to card playing.
- Hang up a large cork board in your gameroom and use letters purchased from the craft store to label it the "Hall of Fame." Take pictures of your friends as they complete certain accomplishments, whether that is winning a game of pool or winning four games of Trivial Pursuit in a row. Mount their pictures up on the cork board along with descriptions of their achievements.
