If your child can name all of his letters, the next step is to teach him to recognize them. A fun way to do this is to have your child look for letters, in order, wherever you happen to be. Good searching places include books, signs, billboards, street signs, magazines, circulars, the list is endless.

This game can be easily adapted to fit in with whatever you are doing -- are you on a long car ride?

Waiting in doctor's office? Clipping coupons? Relaxing at home? Shopping in the supermarket? Not only will it eliminate some boredom for your little one, but will teach them a much-needed basic.

In the beginning, make the game a team effort -- find the letters together and if you spot one, offer your preschooler a clue as to where it is. As they get better at identifying letters, introduce a (reasonable) time limit. Can they find the whole alphabet before you get home or finish your grocery shopping?
