Travelling to Nagarhole
You can take various modes of transport to reach Nagarhole. It is very well connected with road, air, and rail. Mysore is the closest railway station and just takes about two hours to reach Nagarhole. The closest airport is located in Bangalore and is around 220 kilometers away. You can also reach the place from Madikere, which is about ninety
kilometers away.
You can easily buy bus tickets, or hire a bus depending on the number of people travelling with you. Purchasing bus tickets online is also possible.
Things to Do
Waterfalls, dense forests and temples are amongst the major attractions in this region. The biggest attraction is the Nagarhole National Park earlier known as the Rajiv Gandhi National Park. The park covers an area of six hundred and forty three sq km. It is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The center of this park has a perennial reservoir along with shallow valleys.
Established in the year 1955, the Nagarhole National Park along with the Wayanand National Sanctuary, the Mudumalai National Park, and the Bandipur National Park form the biggest protected area of Southern India.
The area is famous for its rich variety of fauna and flora. It attracts numerous environmentalists all around the year. Apart from the greenery and wildlife, it also has hilly terrains, grassy swamps, and lakes.
The perfect climate and ample greenery makes it a desired habitat for various wild life species like pangolin, bonnet macaque, black-naped hare, wild boar, sambhar, panther, tiger, spotted deer, civet, jungle cat, sloth bear, four horned antelope, and lots more. The wild elephant and the Indian Bison are the two of the biggest animals found in this region.
Entry into the park is free and you don't even need permits to roam in the area. You can also book jeep safaris and have a better view of the area and its wildlife.
The Brahmagiri Mountains form a perfect backdrop for this beautiful natural park. Some of the other attractions around this region include the Rameshwara Temple, the Irpu Falls, Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary, Nalkeri Forest Reserves and lots more.

There are numerous hotels, guest houses and motels available in this region. You have to make prior reservations as there is a lot of demand for rooms in this region. Most of the hotels in the region offer sightseeing packages, which take you to the national park. You can also ask for pick up and drop services from the airport or railway station.
