How to Make a Felt Ornament

These pretty felt ornaments look complicated but are actually super-easy to make. I used a hot-glue gun but if you have younger kids, some fabric glue will work just as well (though you may need to allow extra time for drying in between steps).

Read on for simple step-by-step instructions for how to create these beautiful ornaments for the Christmas tree or anywhere else you can think of for a festive look!

Gather the materials to make these felt ornaments.

To make these felt ornaments, you will need the following materials:
  • felt (in various colors)
  • sharp scissors
  • pencil
  • card stock paper
  • circle shape paper punch or any round object (like a small jar) that you can use to trace a circle shape
  • glue gun (If you are working with younger kids, you may want to use fabric glue instead; also make sure an adult handles the glue gun, since the tip of the glue gun and the glue itself can get extremely hot.)

Make a circle out of the cardstock paper.

Use a circle-shaped paper punch (or trace a round object, like a bottle) to make a circle out of the card stock paper.

    Trace circles on the felt.

Trace around the card stock paper circle to make several circles on the felt. You will need 9 circles for each felt ornament.

    Cut out the felt circles.

Cut out the felt circles with a pair of sharp scissors.

Fold one of the felt circles in half.

Take two felt circles. Make one a base and fold the other in half.

Fold the felt circle in half again and add glue.

Fold the circle in half again and add some glue to just the inside corner as shown.

Put glue on one side of the folded felt circle.

Next, add glue to one side of the folded felt circle.

Add another folded circle to the base.

Glue the folded felt circle to the base circle. (Note: If you are using a glue gun, make sure an adult is handling this part.)

    Glue down this folded circle.

Take another felt circle and fold it in half then into a quarter, just as before. Add glue again to just the inside bottom tip.

Next, add glue to the bottom edge as shown.

Add two more folded felt circles.

we had free time in amsterdam our last afternoon and evening on the amalegro. some passengers used the opportunity to visit the ann frank, van gogh, or rijks museums. others walked the short distance into the city and strolled along the damrak or had a drink while watching the interesting people of amsterdam--both residents and tourists.

it had been a fascinating time in the netherlands and belgium.

amawaterways has developed a diverse tulip time itinerary packed with cities, towns, villages, and countryside. the excellent guides and audio vox system enhanced our understanding of all we saw and experienced. the entire week was filled with activities and ports, and most of our sailing was done at night. although we would have loved a day to do "nothing" but sail on the amalegro and watch the scenery, i can't think of a port i would have sacrificed for a day on the water.

the next morning, we disembarked and took the amalegro shuttle to the airport. like most small ships, the disembarkation process was smooth and lacked the stress and "hurry up and wait" sometimes seen on large cruise ships. we didn't have to put our bags outside the door until 30 minutes before we were to leave for the airport, making packing easier. by the time we ate breakfast, our bags were on the bus and it was time to go home.

thanks to amawaterways and the crew of the amalegro for a memorable time on the rivers, canals, streets, and gardens of the netherlands and belgium.
