- 1). Commission a family attorney specializing in adoptions. Discuss specifics of the adoption procedure such as the age, gender and race of a desired child. Discuss an ideal time frame for the adoption of a child.
- 2). Arrange through the family attorney to have a home study done. A family services representative visits the home and observes the area, home and family dynamic of the prospective parents. The representative writes a report for the attorney, and the attorney presents the report to birth mothers to begin the family selection process.
- 3). Arrange meetings with prospective birth mothers through the family attorney. Once a birth mother agrees to place the child with you, have the attorney draw up any necessary contracts to validate the agreement.
- 4). Arrange to take custody of the child at the hospital following the birth. Instruct the attorney to bring the adoption papers to the hospital for both the birth mother and the adoptive parents to execute, finalizing the adoption.
