Tampa is known as one of the premier party cities in the United States, with hundreds of nightclubs and live music venues. The city also has numerous museums, theme parks, the Lowry Park Zoo and the Florida Aquarium. Tampa offers numerous outdoor activities as well, with miles of beaches and parks, as well as the annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival, a mock pirate invasion held early in the year. There are several kinds of campgrounds in the Tampa area for those who prefer living in nature to the confines of a hotel room. - Raccoon Creek Recreation Area is a campground located at MacDill Air Force Base. Active and retired members of the military, the Reserves and the National Guard may use Raccoon Creek, as well as civilians who work for the U.S. Department of Defense. The campground has 346 paved spaces which come with water, sewer and 30/50-amp electrical hookups. Long-term guests can also arrange for cable television. There are also 37 dirt spaces with water and 20/30/50-amp electricity, and 36 dirt spaces which come with no connections. Tent camping spots, also with no connections, are also available. Raccoon Creak has an activity room, laundry facilities, boating, showers, gas, restaurants and a marina. Wireless and dial-up Internet and phone hook-ups are offered at the marina. Raccoon Creek has its own post office, and guests receive a private mailbox and key at check-in. Pets are welcome, with a two-pet maximum. Reservations are recommended and can be made up to one year in advance.

The Bay Bayou clubhouse houses laundry facilities, pool tables, a piano, a kitchen and a lending library. Wireless Internet is available throughout the park, including the clubhouse. High-speed DSL service is available at all RV sites. Bay Bayou offers fishing and viewing docks, bocce ball, horseshoes and shuffleboard. The park is pet-friendly, and has its own fenced-in dog run, complete with a hot water bath. Swim in the heated pool, soak in the Jacuzzi, play Bingo or sing karaoke without leaving the park.

baybayou.com - West Tampa Mobile Home Park offers RV, camper and motor home camping spaces, as well as mobile homes for rent. Older-model recreational vehicles are welcome. Sites come with full utility hook-ups. As of 2010, lot rentals began at $250 per month. Rates include electricity, sewer and water. RV spaces are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, although a $100 deposit can hold your spot for four days. Pets must be approved by the management.
