Free HTML Blog Templates - Are They Worth It?
One of my first misgivings about free HTML blog templates is that they are programmed in HTML.
For most blogging platforms, this isn't going to be a dynamic enough template to cope with the demands of plugins and widgets and constant updating.
It is much preferable to use php template in the first place and then, to use a template that is custom designed for the blogging platform that you are using (eg WordPress or Blogger or otherwise).
Blogging has become pretty high tech in a lot of ways.
It's still simple to write and update a regular blog, particularly for people who are just writing them for the use of their immediate family and friends.
But commercial blogs are required to cope with high amounts of traffic and multiple purposes.
These could include generating leads, supporting advertising banners or AdSense code and displaying photos and videos.
HTML might just not be able to cope with these high stress demands over time.
Having said that free HTML blog templates are probably not a good way to go, I just want to say that doesn't mean that free templates aren't any good.
Quite the contrary.
I have several high traffic blogs in different niches and use free templates for all of them.
In particular, open source templates are very good by virtue of the fact that they are being used and developed constantly and often have good support and tutorials available for customization and adding plugins and widgets as required.
Getting on the blogging train has never been easier and has become a profitable way for many webmasters and average Joes/Janes to make money online.
I'd just avoid free HTML blog templates and stick with php templates designed for your platform - or just go with a free blog for convenience if making money isn't your primary concern.
These are easy to make pretty and to manage and update and provide a lot of fun.
