How to Wind the String on a McCulloch X-Series
- 1). Shut the X-Series' engine off and lay the unit on the ground. Tilt the shaft upwards to work on the trimmer head. Grasp the outer head cover and press in the two tabs on the head. Pull the cover off the mowing head.
- 2). Clean off any remaining trimmer string. Clean the spool and inside the mowing head. Replace either if they are broken or damaged. Cut off the required amount of trimmer string.
- 3). Hold the trimmer spool in your hand. Fold the trimmer string in half. Push the midpoint loop into the notch on the spool until it snaps down. Place your finger between the strings, hold the spool firmly and wind the string clockwise around the spool, keeping both strings tight and uniform.
- 4). Insert the remaining 6 inches of line into the guide slots on the spool. Thread the string ends into the exit holes on the mowing head. Press the spool down into the mowing head. Fit the cover back over the spool and press it down until it snaps into place. Pull up on the strings to remove them from the guide slots.
