- The two-valve version of the 4.6-liter V8 featured a 3.552-inch cylinder bore and a 3.543-inch stroke, with two valves for each cylinder for a total of 16 valves. It generated 225 horsepower and 286 ft.-lbs. of torque. The torque gave the F-150 its towing and hauling power.
- The three-valve version had the same bore and stroke dimensions as its two-valve sibling and had 24 valves. Like the two-valve model, the three-valve's compression ratio was 9.4:1 and ran on unleaded fuel. A multipoint fuel injection system delivered the fuel. The three-valve 2009 F-150 wielded 292 horsepower and 320 ft.-lbs. of torque.
- The largest of the three engine options was the fuel-injected 5.4-liter V8, which was equipped with three valves per cylinder and a 9.8:1 compression ratio. The cylinder bore was 3.552 inches and the stroke measured 4.165 inches. It generated 320 horsepower and 290 ft.-lbs. of torque.
