The Proper Placement of Flags on Veterans' Graves
Flag on Casket
- A flag placed over a closed casket lies in relation to the alignment of the body. The field of blue filled with white stars, or the Union, rests over the left shoulder. The rest of the flag lies flat and even over the casket. The flag remains this way until the funerary procession reaches the graveside, where the flag folding and presentation ceremony takes place.
