How to Change a Starter Cable on My Weed Eater Mower
- 1). Loosen the screw holding the throttle cable to the engine and remove the cable.
- 2). Unscrew the air filter from the unit and remove the filter.
- 3). Remove the cable from the spark plug by pulling on it. Unscrew the spark plug using a socket wrench.
- 4). Remove the screws holding the clutch assembly to the unit using a torx screwdriver. Pull up on the cover and disconnect the wires from the underside by pulling on the connectors.
- 5). Remove the screw holding the cover on the pulley inside the housing. Lift off the cover.
- 6). Cut the cord just below the handle if it is still intact.
- 7). Insert the new cord into the hole on the pulley and tie a knot to hold it in place.
- 8). Wrap the cord clockwise around the pulley, keeping the cord as taut as possible. Pull 10 inches of the cord from the housing, through the hole.
- 9). Wrap the cord around your hand to make a loop. Pull on the cord six to seven times to create tension from the spring.

Reassemble the housing.
