How to Identify Red Fox Fur

    • 1). Notice the color of the fur. Red fox fur is more of an orange-red than a bright red color.

    • 2). Take a look at the pelt. You're looking at a red fox pelt if the sides are white--even just a strip of white fur. The red fox has the orange-red color on his back, sides and head. The sides, neck and bottom of the fox will be white. When the fox is skinned, there will be some white fur on the sides of pelt.

    • 3). Determine red fox fur by the tail. The tail is long, thick and bushy. The tail may be slightly darker than the coat--a orange-red-brown color--and the tip of the tail will be white. Some red foxes have brown circles around the tail.
