How to Apply for a Gun License in Pittsburgh
- 1). Go to the Allegheny County Sheriff's website and view the PDF copy of the handgun license application (see Resources). Print it out and fill it out with a pen, or type your information into the form and then print it out. Fill in your name, address and other information on the form, including the names and phone numbers of two character references who live in the state.
- 2). Make photocopies of your Pennsylvania driver's license or other photo ID that shows your residency, along with a voter registration card, car registration, workplace form, or some other type of Pennsylvania license. All the identification items must show your local home address.
- 3). Mail the photo ID copies along with your application to the following address:

Pittsburgh, PA 15219 - 4). Wait to receive your approval notice in the mail from the Sheriff's Office. Go to the Firearms Office in the Allegheny County Courthouse and bring your ID and the approval notice with you. Pay the fee for the handgun license. You will get your permit that day.
