It seems like almost anything goes on the Internet these days. You have cyber stalkers, cyber bullies and online defamation. Internet trouble makers are plentiful mainly because these people think they are safe and anonymous hiding behind their keyboards. They believe they can lie about you and destroy your good name over the Internet and that you can't do anything thing about it.

Unfortunately they are partially right. There are many online web sites, some based overseas that cater to anonymous Internet terrorists. They hide behind lofty claims of first amendment rights to free press but they are actually just slick Internet marketers that know they can make a fast buck by hijacking your good name. They know that people searching for your company name with stumble on the negative comments posted about you and the high traffic will bring in large advertising dollars. This is the reason why these unscrupulous sites will not remove negative comments bout you even after you have submitted evidence the comments are false. It's very difficult to sue these web site owners and win. Many times they are located out of the country and almost all of them use proxy registration and anonymous re mailers to hide their identity. Other times they are able to hide behind free speech laws to publish out right lies about innocent people.

Sometimes the only recourse you have is to locate and identify the actual poster in order to serve them with a restraining order preventing them from stalking and harassing you. You may even have to file a defamation lawsuit against them to recover damages. But first you will have to locate and identify the offending poster in order to service them with a lawsuit. You may also want to run a background report to see if they have any assets to pay on a judgment.

There are several ways you can identify these online stalkers, one is called a reverse email search, This is when you trace their email address back to the sender and locate and identify the author of an email. another method is a blog or web site owner investigation, This is when you hire a private investigator to track down the owner of an anonymous blog or a person commenting on a web site. You can also hire an online reputation defender to use search engine optimization techniques to bury the negative comments on the back pages of search engines.
