Why Not Leaving a Comment on Blog Posts Hurts Your Online Presence

Itcan be frustrating when you take time to create a great blog post, then you post it out and find that only a very few people to leave you a comment.
What most people don't realise is the fact that commenting on blogs actually helps their own creditability, and their 'expertise' status online.
Commenting on blogs is something I didn't do much in my early days of internet marketing.
I read the posts, but just didn't have the time to leave a comment.
Little did I know how much it was hurting my online presence.
You see, here is how it goes...
it's a bit like you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours...
Most blog comments are tagged with 'no follow' which means that the search engines will not see or take notice of your comments, which means it is not worth their while to leave a comment as they get nothing out of it.
However, having a 'do follow' blog means you are allowing each commenter's links to be no follow free.
In other words you are reward people who take the time to leave you a comment on your website, which allows their links to be recognised and picked up when search engines crawl YOUR post.
So how do you make your blog DoFollow? I use WordPress, and they have a great plug in called 'DoFollow' to get this plug in just go to your Dashboard and go to plugins, then select add new and then do a search for 'DoFollow'.
Once you install and activate this plugin it will make all your commenters links DOFollow, this includes those in the past and in the future.
It's a bit more tricky for Blogspot users, but you can do a search on "DOFOLLOW for Blogspot" and get great advice there.
So once you have made your blog a DOFollow blog, how are you going to entice your audience to leave you more comments?
  • Well you could always write something controversial.
This will normally pull in traffic, especially if the post includes a bit of drama!
  • You should write a call to action at the end of your blog post, and ask for readers comments
  • Another great tactic I have seen is to leave something unsaid.
The posts that drive the most sales are the ones that answers questions and solves problems for your target audience and prospects.
So leaving something unsaid gives people the opportunity to answer the question and generates comments.
  • Challenging the leaders is another tactic I have seen used, calling people out when they have provided misinformation can be seen to be a public service, or can be seen as mean spirited and unprofessional.
Think this one through thoroughly as it could potentially back fire on you at some point.
Building Links with DOFollow Comments
  • Commenting becomes more worthwhile when comment on a DOFollow blog, as it will allow you to build up your links, and authority online.
  • Read through the actual blog post that you will leave the comment on, and leave a decent opinionated comment and not just a two word sentence of 'great post', as this may be seen as spamming.
  • look for a comments policy, if there is one you will need to read this through to see what is allowed and what is not allowed.
So, as you can see if your not already leaving comments on blog posts, your missing out.
Not only are you not building backlinks which the googlebots love, but It also shifts your credibility as the expert to the people who solve the problem for your customers and prospects.
Happy Blogging and Commenting!
