Have we all become too self obsessed?

As David Cameron was spotted posing for a selfie or grelfie we it makes me wonder if were becoming more self absorbed than ever before. It seems millions of us are so spending our days in the office either taking selfies or browsing the internet looking at people talking selfies.

This may all seem like harmless fun but whats the long term impact of all this click, click going to be in a few years when? Apart from the fact we will probably not have jobs due to our endless snap happy posing the major question is will be end up becoming so self orientated that our friends and family will result to finding other forms of company.

Selfies can of course be a light-hearted way to show off your new make up or hair cut but the risk is that we pay too much attention to ourselves and not enough to whats going on around us. For instance surely im not the only one thats guilty of sitting at a table or on a sofa and actually feeling annoyed when someone walks in the room not just because they are interupting my sacred Hollyoakes golden hour when I get to watch two episodes back to back but also because im the middle of having a text conversation and dont want to be miss out!

This concept is emphasised perfectly in the recent video from Gary turk whose cleverly worked piece of magic shows how our need to keep in touch with friends and family through our electronic gadgets has lead to us being bombarded with information leading to a rapid overload of our senses. Long gone are the days when we switched off the phone come 5.30pm and watched corrie for 30 minutes and then spent the rest of our down time either reading magazines, baking or enjoying the great outdoors until 9.am Monday morning when the desk beckoned.

Today were inundated with stats from a whole heap of sources with I phones, I pads and of course laptops beeping away at us from dawn until dusk leavign us very little time to actually S.T.O.P.

So after David Camerons selfies is it time for us all to step away from technology.. even if just for five minutes this weekend...

Answers on a postcard, not email as we will of course be offline enjoying some time away from the screen this weekend..
