How to Kill Blight in the Ground
- 1). Hoe the garden area to break up any large clumps of soil and chop down all vegetation. Rake all of the vegetation out of the garden.
- 2). Wet the garden soil thoroughly with a garden hose.
- 3). Lay a roll of clear plastic sheeting on one corner of the garden overlapping both the horizontal and vertical edges by about 4 inches. Place bricks on the sheeting edge that is on the ground surrounding the garden about 1 yard apart.
- 4). Roll the sheeting out and across the garden to overlap the opposite side by about 4 inches. Cut the excess sheeting off with scissors and place bricks on this side of the sheeting to anchor it to the ground.
- 5). Place another roll of sheeting overlapping the first anchored row of sheeting by about 4 inches. Roll it across the garden to extend 4 inches past the garden area. Cut the excess sheeting off and anchor both sides with bricks. Continue adding rows of sheeting over the soil to cover the entire garden.
- 6). Place bricks about 1 yard apart on each of the overlapping seams of sheeting in the garden center. Remove the bricks and plastic sheeting after solarizing the soil for four to six weeks.
