If you're thinking about taking up a position as a clerk at an office or you want to work from home then please keep reading.
This is the only article that will tell you what is true and what is false about this often neglected industry.
Thought: You can earn a lot of money through this business.
Outcome: False.
This is just like every other administration job out there, so unless you are entering top secret data for a multi-billion dollar company then you will be earning minimum wage like everybody else.
That is not to say that you can't earn a living out of it; there are full time clerks all over the world who make a decent living because of their job.
You can earn money from performing data entry jobs out of your own home, but this won't pay you a lot of money either.
Most often you'll be paid between $5 and $10 per job, and depending on how many jobs you can perform per day this won't add up to a lot per week.
Thought: All data entry jobs that promise you can work from home are scams.
Outcome: False.
Many large companies like to outsource their work to people who can work from home because it helps their bottom line.
Even if you are being paid the same as if you were working at the office, the company saves money by not having to pay rent for an extra office or an extra car space.
Small businesses like to advertise their data entry jobs online because it means that they can save money in the application process.
Most of this work can be done from home anyway as long as the clerk has access to the original data being entered.
Thought: You don't have to be a genius to be a clerk.
Outcome: True.
You don't have to know a lot about the computer industry or even have a lot of different computer skills to be a clerk.
You have to have a good typing speed and a good eye for detail, and you have to be able to navigate your way around your e-mail, but other than that you can be a high school dropout, retired nurse, or an IT graduate and still get a lot of data entry jobs.
