Planning A First Communion Party
The first time a child is allowed to receive the Holy Communion is a huge faith milestone in their life which calls for celebration with family, relatives and friends. Be sure to plan the First Communion party based on the time of the mass and ceremony are over. Some parents prefer a morning mass while others go for the afternoon mass and even an evening mass.
While planning a First Communion party, consider a few things including the time of the mass, the number of people in attendance and the budget. With that in mind, it will be very easy to plan the party and enjoy it without stress.
If the First Communion mass is being held in the morning, decide whether to prepare either mid-morning snacks or lunch at home. Remember there are different age groups in the party and the food has to appeal to everyone. For the snacks, you may want to serve hot dogs, fruit salads, cross or chalice shaped cookies, ice cream and some soft drinks. Given that guests will be coming from a morning mass, you may even consider including wine and Mimosas.
The First Communion being held in early afternoon will change the party menu lunch party. It doesn't have to be an heavy lunch, you can prepare a light lunch too. Consider deli sandwiches, hi-rollers, or chicken as the entree with a selection of salads and a fruit platter. Other options such as Chicken sandwiches, baked mostaccioli, and meatballs will appeal to all in attendance. As for drinks, serve fruit punch, soft drinks, coffee, and maybe even wine and beer for the adults.
Now, if the First Communion party is in the evening, you might consider an out door event like a barbeque kind of a dinner. Have a variety of barbequed foods like fish, steak, chicken, sausages and even hot dogs to mention a few. Fruit salad, a tossed green salad, baked beans, and corn-on-the-cob will make great additions. As for drinks, definitely have soft drinks and juice for the children. For the adults, serve a variety of soda, wine, beer, and possibly a signature mixed drink. Don't forget to serve some desserts which may be a Christian themed sheet cake served with ice cream, miniature pastries, and/or cookies in the shape of a cross or chalice.
Since its a children's party, you may want to add some activities in the planning by inviting a clown or coming up with different games so that the kids will be engaged all the time. After every one has eaten dinner and dessert is served, the Communicant may want to open their First Communion Gifts. Before guests leave, don't forget to give them a little token of gratitude, by giving each guest a little Christian Party Favor to remember the special day.
Again, since this a huge milestone for your child, a celebration with family, relatives, and friends is a must. If you plan ahead and consider the mass time, the party will turn out to be fun with no stress!
