    • 1). Go to counseling.org, the homepage of the American Counseling Association. Click once on the "Resources" tab on the top of the website. This will direct you to a page that provides several counseling-related resources and links along the left side of the page, such as online learning opportunities, ethics, a counselor directory, and podcasts.

    • 2). Click once on the "Ethics" on the left side of the Resources page. This will direct you to the official ACA page about ethics.

    • 3). Click once on the gray box labeled "ACA Code of Ethics," located in the middle of the page's content. This will either automatically open the document as a PDF file, or it may open a window which asks how you would like to open the file. Choose to open the file with Adobe Reader.

    • 4). Search within the ACA Code of Ethics by typing keywords into the search bar provided at the top of the window. For example, if you are interested in searching for information about client/counselor confidentiality, type the word "confidentiality" into the search bar and press the return key. This will automatically direct you to the first mention of "confidentiality." Press return again to move to subsequent pages that are about "confidentiality." Continue this process until you find the information you're looking for.

    • 5). Review the table of contents on the second page of the Code of Ethics file if you wish to conduct a less specific search. This option will direct you to the page numbers of various topics within the Code of Ethics, such as "The Counseling Relationship" and "Resolving Ethical Issues."
