Make a list of all of your activities, including local community positions, school clubs, internships, volunteer experience and other non-work related items. Write down when you worked in these roles and some of the duties that you performed. Make sure to list relevant materials that relate to jobs for which you are applying. This list will be helpful when you type the résumé into a computer document.

Begin writing the résumé by placing your name and contact information on the very top of the page. Bold your name so that it stands out. Write a clear objective beneath your name, highlighting---in one sentence---the role you seek and what skills you might offer. For example, if you are applying to a job or club membership that is seeking a budget manager, you might write, "Seeking a challenging job that allows me to use my knowledge of finance and management." Follow this up with activities that show you have experience with finance and management. These could be activities in which you worked with treasury, making decisions and provided leadership.

List each activity separately, making the activity title and your position clear. Use a bullet list or space each activity below one another. Bold the title of the activity so the reader can see the clear difference between each activity. For instance, if you worked as a hospital volunteer, bold the hospital that you worked for and beneath that, place your position. Beneath the position that you had, list some of the duties that you performed. If you are seeking a job but only have activity experience, write down some of the activity duties that are applicable to a possible future job, including answering phones, organizing paperwork and managing others.

Edit the résumé thoroughly. According to the website Monster.com's résumé tips, spelling errors are responsible for many résumé rejections. Make sure there are no spelling errors, grammatical problems or structural issues.
