Acne can be such a bummer when you're a teenager.
They appear during those times you don't want them around, and when it gets really ugly you just wish you can cover your face with a bag.
There is no one magical cure that can wipe clean all those unsightly blemishes away.
There are, however, a couple of things you can do to keep your acne at bay.
Wash your face daily It can be so tempting to just plunk down to bed on those extra hectic nights - be it a blazing party or an all-night study session.
Before doing so, make sure you have washed your face.
Throughout the day a lot of dirt and bacteria have accumulated on your skin, which causes acne.
Use a cleansing soap that works best for your skin type, then use a toner to even out skin and moisturizer to keep skin supple.
Hands off your face! The unwashed hand contains about one million bacteria per square centimeter of skin.
Before you twiddle with that zit or put your hands in your face, think twice.
You might be transferring all those germs to your face, which may cause breakouts later.
It is also best not to pop or pierce your pimples on your own.
This usually leads to scarring and recurrent breakouts on the spot of skin that was prematurely broken.
If you do want to get rid of the pus just oozing out of your zit, press a clean warm compress against it to hasten the natural process.
Eat skin-friendly food A diet rich in greasy fries, hamburgers and chocolate milkshakes will show on your skin.
Research has shown that a diet rich in carbohydrates and milk-based products will exacerbate skin problems and cause acne breakouts.
Relieve your body of these foods by taking a cleansing diet rich in vegetables, whole grains and fruits.
Taking at least three servings of fruit or vegetable a day will also help keep your skin clear and healthy.
Some great skin-friendly food include tomatoes, carrots, berries, and banana.
Get enough sleep Constant all-nighters can wreak havoc on your skin.
It is important to get enough z's so that your skin can rejuvenate, repair, and maintain itself.
Getting sufficient sleep also reduces stress levels, which is one of the causes of acne.
Exercise regularly Keeping the body fit and active has great benefits for your skin, too.
Exercising pumps up your circulation, which brings needed nutrients to the skin while helping flush out the toxins that cause acne breakouts.
Like sleep, exercising also helps reduce stress levels, which helps keep acne at bay.
Take your acne vitamins If you have acne that just doesn't seem to go away, you may try looking into taking acne vitamins.
These are supplements specially designed to reduce and treat acne-prone skin.
There are certain vitamins that have been discovered to do great wonders for skin if you take them in the right dosage and amount.
The best way to battle acne is with a positive attitude and optimism.
Do not let your skin problems take the better of you.
If your skin problems persist, it is best to consult a dermatologist.
They may determine specific treatments for your particular skin type or type of acne breakout.
