As new models of cars are coming with more and more computerized and data-oriented options included in them, a larger number of these cars are being added to rental car fleets. Some of these technological and data-oriented options are integrated into the rental car's system already, while others are accessories that you may have to pay an extra fee to rent. - Navigation systems are a relatively new piece of technology that are used inside all types of vehicles to help a driver get from place to place using a map, a data screen and sometimes the voice of a computer that tells you where to go and when to turn. Some of the these navigation systems are built into rental cars, sometimes making their daily rates more expensive. Some of these navigation systems, such as the Garmin and Tom Tom systems, can be rented separately from the car at the rental car agency, for an added fee per day. However, if you have a cellular phone with a maps application built into it, this will act as a navigation system for free.
- Certain automobiles, depending on the year they were produced and the manufacturer, have data screens on the driver-side dashboard, often next to the speedometer. This option is integrated into the car's system and will probably only come on cars that cost more money per day to rent from the rental agency. However, these data screens can be incredibly helpful when figuring out things such as fuel economy of the car, especially when trying to fill the fuel back up to the level it was at when you first started driving it. This way you won't pay as much money on gas and they won't charge an exorbitant amount to fill it back up.
- Other cars from rental fleets have options for different types of entertainment in the car itself. These options include MP3 player capabilities for digital music players, so that you can play all your favorite music you have downloaded from your computer. For larger cars such as SUVs or minivans, actual DVD players and flip down screens will be available, so people sitting in the backseats of the rental car can watch movies. These are viable data options for a family that needs to entertain the kids during a road trip in a rental car.
