    Background

    • The hybrid tea rose come from a cross between the tea rose and a hybrid perpetual, a type of rose that provides very large and abundant blossoms. The hybrid tea rose flower is recognized both for its fragrance and for its wide range of color options, making it a good choice for the home garden as there is a broad selection.

    Types

    • Hybrid tea roses have many successful flower colors, most commonly yellows, oranges and pinks. The American Rose Society recommends the Peace, First Prize and Tropicana hybrid tea roses, which are yellow, pink and orange-red, respectively.

    Anatomy

    • The flower on a hybrid tea rose consists of several parts. Hybrid tea roses are dicots, meaning the seedlings have two embryonic leaves. The hybrid tea rose flower is made up of a peduncle, which is a particular type of branch at the end of the hybrid tea rose stalk. At the end of the peduncle is the receptable, a base where the rest of the hybrid tea rose flower forms. The green "leaves" around the petals are called sepals.

    Protection

    • Hybrid tea rose flowers are spring and summer bloomers. The bush goes into a dormancy period in winter, and the bush can be susceptible to freezing in colder temperatures. A few pests and diseases attack hybrid tea rose flowers, but a light commercial rose fungicide or pesticide will prevent this. Wild animals also love eating hybrid tea rose flowers, and it is not advisable to plant a hybrid tea rose bush if you live in an area with a lot of deer.

    Deadheading

    • Deadheading is the term for removing a hybrid tea rose flower, and it is an important aspect of rosebush maintenance. Once the hybrid tea rose flower has bloomed, it should be cut with pruning shears. The best way is to cut the stem cleanly and swiftly, at a 45-degree angle. It is advisable to deadhead close to the bud at the start of the season, moving down the stem as the bush continues to bloom.
