How to Transfer a Grant Deed

    • 1). Visit the property records office in the county where the property is located and ask for a blank grant deed form. You can write your own grant deed; use the current grant deed as a template.

    • 2). Execute the new grant deed. If you are the owner of the land, write your name on the lines for the Grantor; write the names of the new owners on the lines for the Grantees. Include each person’s name and address, list the amount paid for the transfer and include a legal description of the land.

    • 3). Sign the deed in the presence of a notary public. Have the deed notarized.

    • 4). Return to the property records office with the notarized deed. Pay to have the deed recorded. The clerk will take the deed and stamp it; a copy is kept in the office. Give the new grant deed to the new owners.
